Imagine this.
In the future there is no legal abortion and human life is protected from conception until the age of 13.
Women unable to raise their children had two options: leave the baby with the state or "stork" the baby by leaving it on someone's doorstep.
No big deal if the kids live in overcrowded state homes or with parents who leave them to die. No biggie. Just as long as abortion is illegal, all is good, right
In the future parents DO have a great amount of power and "choice" when the child turns 13.
Parents have a window from that moment until the child reaches the age of 18 to sign documents asking the government to "unwind' the child.
The government picks the kids up and takes them to Camp Harvest where they are exercised and fattened up and ultimately unwound in a maze of medical capitalistic welfare state world.
I will NOT ruin this book by telling you it's better than Divergent PLUS Hunger Games mashed up together but I will stake my book club on this. I've read and liked either of those books, you will LOVE this book. I started it at 10am and read it every minute I could until I finished it around 5pm.
It didn't make me cry, but it did make me think, and in my world that makes this book treasure.
