100 Book Project: Book #76 - Back Seat Review

Yes, I have already reviewed The Giving Tree which is why the book was in the backseat next to Zack this morning when we were stuck in traffic.

I take deep breaths, not stressed over this horrible traffic jam, not freaking out, ok ok fine freaking out a little, then exhaling.

Zack screams out from the back seat "HE CUT THE TREE DOWN!!!!"

At first I didn't know what he was talking about (sometimes I hear much better than I listen....) then I realized the semi-silence between us was filled with anguished sobs.

I half shout "The Giving Tree? It's OK! It's just a book! The tree isn't real just like Roo didn't die in Hunger Games. Plus the tree asks for it."

He wails louder, HE CUT THE TREE DOWN!

I sit there stuck in traffic and tell my son that this book is either a love story or a horror story, depending on how you look at it and how smart you are.

That stopped his tears and then his sister added, "look at the back!! that's what my friends and I did when we freaked out over that book"

Zack flipped the book over and saw the big black and white of the bearded author and laughed.
