“As you grow older, you will discover that you have two hands, one for helping yourself, the other for helping others,” said Audrey Hepburn. Well over my years, not only have I learned the use of my hands but I have also realized the importance of my helping hands to others. For my service project, I adopted a Veteran by the name of Marshall and bought him gifts for Christmas. For Christmas I got him two towels, two rags and a bathroom rug. All of my life I have never wanted for anything but I also failed to realize how many want for so much and cannot have it. I chose to do this for my service project because during the holidays, I tend to get really selfish and never think about those who are unable to receive the way I receive each year. By giving a gift to someone, I know there is one less person out there without a gift from someone this season. The project had an educational impact on my life because my career goal is to become a doctor. In that position, I need to learn to have more compassion for people. I believe I also need to be prepared to see all kinds of people and be able to deal with different families and situations. Buying a gift for Marshall, I know it will have a great impact on his life. He needs to know and will know that he was thought about over this holiday season. I hope he has a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
