Gregory Spent More Time at Veterans Village than I did This Summer

Student Service Project Reports Summer 2016

Our prime purpose in this life is to help others. And if you cant help them, at least don’t hurt them. -Dalai Lama

My service project was inspired by our class outing at the Tallahassee Veterans Village to serve them dinner. During the time when we were setting up and the residence started to come in, myself and another classmate was talking near the front door and one of the residences stop. His name is Charles and he asked me a question in which I get all the time and that question, well it was a statement. He said you are a preacher and I said yes I am. He then presided to say I know because the chill bumps on my arms tells me so. So he asked me about doing Bible Study at the Village, so I responded and said I will check with Management to ensure if this was something that we can actually do. I followed up with management and I was granted access to the Village to do Bible Study every Wednesday night. So my service project is leading Bible Study at the Tallahassee Veterans Village. On the first Wednesday night my wife and I had about 6 veterans in attendance and we did a study on Faith. We used the book of Hebrews chapter 11 as our reference to the lesson. We had an awesome time learning from the Veterans as well as offering our knowledge of the Bible. You would never know what a person is going through until you sit down and talk to them. I believe I enjoyed the time more than them. I mean there knowledge of the Bible and their experiences with being at war and how they have some out of it is simply amazing.

So, one would think that after such an awesome first week the next week would be bigger and better. Unfortunately, I didnt have anyone to show up, which really hurt me to my heart. But after encouraging myself and listening to my wife I thought about what I did the first time that I didnt do the second time. I said to my wife I didnt put out any flyers this week. So I made more flyers and made sure that I put on
it that we will have Bible Study Every Wednesday. So on the following Tuesday evening I went back to the Village and I posted flyers around to remind them of the bible study day and time.

Now it’s Wednesday again, and I am not feeling my best but I made a commitment to the guys and I must keep it and I show up and there is one person there. We sat and we talked about life and where our lives have brought us from and he told me how the Lord had been blessing him and that he was just hired for a job.
The very next day our class was serving dinner again and I showed up and told the guys as they entered to not forget about the bible study the next week. They told me that they would show up and they did we had 6 guys again and we had a great Bible Study on how creation builds our faith and we was there for about an hour and forty-five minutes but it was well worth it. I am going to continue to have my Bible study class with these guys because it is helping me to be a better man and to be a better person. I am learning just as much from them as they are learning from me. I did this project because I was approached and asked to do it by one of the residence of the Veterans Village. This project has help me on my educational path because it makes me study to understand better what I am talking about with these guys because they know the bible. The impact that I am see is that we as men, we are getting together to do something positive and with everything that is going on in the world I believe that men should get together and pray and study so that we can face whatever comes our way.
