JF: Veterans do so much for our well being that they deserve to be treated well and respectfully, unlike the Bonus March.

AMH2020

The secretary general of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg, had these wise words, “When autumn darkness falls, what we will remember are the small acts of kindness: a cake, a hug, an invitation to talk, and every single rose. These are all expressions of a nation coming together and caring about its people.” This specific quote touched me because my whole life I never was into doing family trips to downtown to a soup kitchen or just Christmas charity events. However, my mother’s company always did toys for tots which is a non-profit toy drive that just gives millions of toys to kids around the world. From this experience and how great the feeling was I decided to do buy bath towels and target gift cards for someone in need.
I know it is not a large amount but I do think It will help someone at least get through the day. This connects to my core values of happiness, being giving, and community.

Happiness is one of my main core values because who doesn’t like being happy. Happiness is most likely in many people’s core values because having it is good but giving it is even better. When I heard of this service project I did not know which one I wanted to pick but I think giving necessities to veterans would be a great one because I know it would make someone happy. Bringing joy to a veteran in need during the holidays brings me just as much joy as it may bring them. I bought two target gift cards so I do not know what Ms. Soldani will buy but I know she will do a great job. I think it is fantastic that she is doing all this for the veterans and she should be rewarded for it but I know that is not why she is doing it.

Giving is one of the greatest feelings ever. Giving is my second core value because I know how great gifts feel to receive. This service project brought me to realize how great giving is because you never know who needs these items and just thinking about how I am just changing someone’s day completely means the world to me. This relates back to my first core value because this doesn’t only make me happy I hope it would make the person receiving the gift make he/she happy and he/she’s family happy.

Community is another one of my core values and this was a great way to help the community. When I first got to Tallahassee I realized that there were a few run-down parts like any city but I wanted to know what I could do to help this problem. I know I could not do much but I’m extremely glad Ms. Soldani gave us this assignment because it really helped my view on Tallahassee and how to bring a change to the people in need. Veterans do so much for our well being that they deserve to be treated well and respectfully, unlike the Bonus March. The community should do the best job they can on keeping the veterans happy because if you were a former soldier you would be wanted to be treated the same way.

Giving towels and gift cards for the men that do the most in our country was a fantastic idea and I would love to be involved in this every Christmas. The quote at the beginning of my essay brings us back to the point that giving anything no matter how big or small means the world. Everyone no matter what the income should help a family or veteran in need every single time they can because there is always something that needs what you have more than you do.
