P: For all I know someone I help could be going through a hard time and this could have been the thing that got him or her through it by changing their outlook on life

“Help others and give something back. I guarantee you will discover that while public service improves the lives and the world around you, its greatest reward is the enrichment and new meaning it will bring your own life.” - Arnold Schwarzenegger
For my service project, I signed up to bring a couple pounds of pulled pork with BBQ sauce to serve to veterans in need at the Veterans’ Village. My professor, Dr. Soldani, organized the service project with Veterans’ Village I already had a bunch of pulled pork in my freezer for the semester, so I heated it up, which was surprisingly hard because it was very frozen, and then I got some barbecue sauce to mix in with it. I brought the pulled pork to the Veterans’ Village and helped to serve the veterans who were getting out of a rough spot. We gave them pork, chicken, salad, sides, sodas, and dessert. It was sad to see how many veterans were homeless or in need of shelter, and that’s only a few of them in Tallahassee. It’s absolutely terrible that our government doesn’t take care of its veterans by reforming the VA or giving added benefits. Our veterans fought for us, the least we can do is make sure they don’t go homeless in the first place!
I’m a Christian, so I like to help people in need in order to share Christ’s love. In the Bible it says, “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. 1 Peter 4:10” I feel like my gift is in the medical field. So I am going to try to become an ER Doctor. I’m majoring in Exercise Physiology for Pre-Med and I am also training to become an Army Combat Medic along with ROTC to become an Army Doctor after that. So in my profession I’ll be trained to help people and be exercising that on a daily basis. My dad is a very serving oriented person and so growing up I learned it is important to help those in need. It’s good to get practice helping people in all aspects of life so that it comes naturally.
I volunteered for this project because it included veterans, which I care deeply about, and it was serving food which is pretty fun. Hopefully veterans will see that we are helping them and decide to go out of their way to help others. For all I know someone I help could be going through a hard time and this could have been the thing that got him or her through it by changing their outlook on life. I enjoyed doing this service project.
