Service Project: I find joy in knowing that this Christmas, someone will feel loved

(Student Essay Fall 2015)
“We need more kindness, more compassion, more joy, more laughter. I definitely want to contribute to that.” - Ellen DeGeneres
Although I have done many projects like this one before, buying things for veterans that have very little has made me realize how grateful I should be with all that I have. I am very glad that I got the opportunity to help someone out, even if it is in such a small way. After receiving the list of suggestions to buy for these people, it was brought to my attention that others need some of the things I often take for granted. I have always loved to help people. I find joy in knowing that this Christmas, someone will feel loved and thought of when receiving the box I provided for them. Although I have never met the person to whom the box will go to, I am confident that he will be happy when he receives it. It is always nice to know that you are though of. I am hoping to do more projects like this one in the near future, because I believe that everyone should feel loved, especially during the holidays. It makes me sad in knowing that these men fought for our country, and now are living on very little. I hope the supplies I bought for the veteran will be useful to him in his life.
