“I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel,” said Maya Angelou. This quote really caught my attention when I first saw it because at the end of the day the most important thing is that not matter what happens as long as the person receiving something is okay. As the class project I decided to do the “gift box” project. The reason I decided to do this was because it caught my attention that is was due closer to Christmas time, which is my favorite time of the year. I enjoy helping and giving things to people in need. So when I was told that I could add anything that will benefit any veterans I was so excited.
In the gift box I added things that will be useful to not only one but to share around. My gift box consisted of a Christmas stocking and inside of it was a pack of warm cozy socks to keep them warm during this winter season. Also, I included a pack of tissues because during this season a lot of people are getting sick and it came in packs to share with others. Lastly, I included a shower loofa of a puppy and a $20 gift card to Walmart. I enjoy giving out presents and when I was giving the opportunity to do so I did. It was really hard deciding what to get someone that I didn’t know but I did what I did. Also, a thing that I enjoy doing and a lot of people tell me not to is giving money to homeless people. Some say to not do it because we don’t know what they are going to use that money for. I always answer, “I did my job in helping them and if they choose to do wrong with them, that’s on them and later when they are in really need of it they’ll notice the wrong they did.” I would have enjoyed adding a meal within the box but I wasn’t sure if it would have been good by the time the veteran got it.
Honestly after giving this gift box gift it felt really nice. Knowing that someone is going to receive something that you gave with love, really reliefs me. I don’t know if imp the only one who feels this way when this happens. I am always the one encouraging family and friends to help out those in need. I am more than sure that who ever received this box is more than happy because they will not only be warm but will be able to have a little extra to grab something else of their choice. Working with veterans has always been one of my goals to and I’m glad I did. I honestly hope its not my last time. I enjoy helping those around especially when I get to see the reactions of those receiving it. Like my mom tells me, “When you give something with all your heart and effort, God will grant you more.” Even if I don’t have money at the time I try my best to get someone something or give them the money I have left. I am more happy that what I don’t need other can have and get more use of it. Growing up I was always taught to share with others because what is given to us is for us to share. A little something goes a long way. Even with a smile anyone’s day can be made and I’m always doing my best to do so. Like I tell my friends, when every they’re are going through something I am always they’re to listen or to help in anything. My mother has always been the one to encourage me to help out in the community.
