“When autumn darkness falls, what we will remember are the
small acts of kindness: a cake, a hug, an invitation to talk, and every single
rose. These are all expressions of a nation coming together and caring about
its people.” -Jens Stoltenberg
A small act of kindness goes a long way. You can
make some’s day by the smallest action. My small act of kindness for this
service project was to bring in two towels, a blanket and a twenty dollar
target gift card for the veterans for Christmas gifts. It is incredible how a
group of people can bring in a few items and it is enough to give all of the
veterans at veteran’s village Christmas gifts. Which I for one am happy to have
contributed too.
This service project related to my core value of love because
it shows love for complete strangers and love for their service for our
country. I related to my major of education because my main reason for wanting
to be teacher is to be able to help people every day so getting to help the
veterans was such a rewarding feeling.
We take for granted the things we have
that are just handed to us when men that served our country are left with so
little. We don’t realize there are people without blankets and towels to use
every day. It was also a good idea to get them gift cards so they can go to the
store and buy something of their choosing that will make them happy this
holiday season. It is important to give back and not take these things for
granted. This service project inspired me to not only give back during the
holidays but to give back throughout the year.
I hope people in the community
become inspired to help the less fortunate during this holiday season. I hope
people will refrain from buying one more thing for themselves and go buy
something for someone else. Giving is such a more rewarding feeling than
receiving and that is something everyone should experience this holiday season.
Something everyone should take away from these service project is that all
small acts of kindness are appreciated and showing that you care can really
have a great effect on people.
