JW: Seeing someone grow or make themselves feel better about themselves is an amazing thing, and I’d love to be a part of that healing process.

            For my extra credit service project, I made some food for an Italian themed dinner and brought it over to Veteran’s Village, which is a transitional housing for homeless veterans to help them get back on their feet.     I chose this quote because I thought it fit rather well with this project. I did have conversations with some of the veterans, and I did bring them food, but I feel as if they won’t remember that specifics of that. They just might remember feeling happy and warm in a time where they might not have been feeling like themselves.  I know how hard it is for veterans to go back to their normal lives and even find a job after being deployed and doing time overseas. I really appreciated how this program not only was a safe haven for veterans, but also helped them get back on their feet and independent as well as put them in a social setting to adjust back to societal ways.
            Many of my family members are retired members of military service or have worked on the military alongside soldiers. My **** does have PTSD, but he was lucky enough to have a family to fall back on and support him emotionally to go back into the workforce and social world. Knowing that not everyone has this luck, I wanted to help these veterans any way that I could. A core value to me is altruism, so this was a no-brainer. I’m hoping that this dinner could’ve at least brighten up their day a little bit and maybe even inspire them to do the same for veterans when they get back on their feet.
      
            My current major is computer science, but stuff like this makes me want to switch to a major that allows me to be more involved in making other people happy. Seeing someone grow or make themselves feel better about themselves is an amazing thing, and I’d love to be a part of that healing process.
