For my service project I went and
bought some nice supplies and food that I think our deployed soldiers overseas
in Afghanistan would like to receive.
These gift boxes are meant for our
soldiers to understand that we are thinking about them and are thankful for
their service. Maya Angelou has a famous quote that says “I've learned that
people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people
will never forget how you made them feel.” When coming to service for others,
veterans are always special to me. They lay down their lives for us citizens of
the United States, so we can live in freedom. I
believe that every soldier
should get something whether it’s a package or letter from people and family back
in the United States to show that we are thankful for them for protecting our
country. I’ve realized that it’s not just about helping people physically but
helping them to feel joyfulness and happiness. It is a good feeling to know
that I am doing something that will make someone else happy. Another quote
written by Douglas Adams that stood out to me is “To give real service you must
add something which cannot be bought or measured with money, and that is
sincerity and integrity.” When I went out and bought food and supplies for our
soldiers I was not worried about the amount of money I was spending because I
realized my actions were out of love and sincerity. One will remember the small
acts of love at times that are not so good for them. In Jens Stoltenberg’s
quotes he says “When autumn darkness falls, what we will remember are the small
acts of kindness: a cake, a hug, an invitation to talk, and every single rose.
These are all expressions of a nation coming together and caring about its
people.”
This quote means that all people around the world can come together
throughout acts of love and kindness with each other. This project enabled me to
spread my actions of kindness all way from across the world to one of our
deployed soldiers.
Arnold Schwarzenegger has a famous quote that says “Help
others and give something back. I guarantee you will discover that while public
service improves the lives and the world around you, its greatest reward is the
enrichment and new meaning it will bring your own life.” The true meaning of
what this quote means is what goes around comes around. The more kindness you spread
around to others, more kindness will come back around to you.
This project has
helped me to witness the feeling of making someone else feel happy, not only
physically but emotionally joyful as well. This project has impacted our
soldiers deployed a well as myself. Finally,
the last quote that has stood out to me the most by Ellen DeGeneres is “We need
more kindness, more compassion, more joy, more laughter. I definitely want to
contribute to that.” It is special that every person is gifted with the ability
to spread joyfulness and happiness with others and Ellen is saying that is what
this world needs. Only good can come from excess compassion, joy, and laughter.
