“Help others and give something back. I guarantee you will discover that
while public service improves the lives and the world around you, its greatest
reward is the enrichment and new meaning it will bring your own life,” said the
Terminator himself. This quote clicked with me because it is extremely true. If
you help the people around you, no matter how big or small, you are rewarded with great feelings.
For my service project, I decided to send a
box of food and toiletries to Afghanistan. I sent some snack food, tooth paste,
deodorant, candy, and many more things. This affects the people around me
because the people in the military right now are keeping our country safe and
will continue to keep our country safe. It is just saddening that the soldiers
are not given the proper necessities and luxuries that us regular people have,
even though they are risking their life for us. This connects to my core values
by giving people happiness and connects to my major of finance by me using my
financial abilities to help someone in need.
Happiness is a major value in my life because being happy just makes the
world around you a better place and the people around you happier. Giving the
box of goods to the soldiers in Afghanistan was not a hard thing to do at all and
I think that many other people in my community should get involved in this
because all this does is give the soldiers some great things while just
bringing light to their day. Dr. Soldani’s service projects are a fantastic
idea because all of the proposals would bring a great amount of happiness to
the veterans and current soldiers.
Sending good connects
to my major of finance vaguely but it does in the way that I am just
financially able to give. My mom had raised me as a giving kid so I have been
doing this kind of thing for a while but this one seemed special. Dr. Soldani’s
project helped me realize that it is not just something I need to do with my
family every year, it is something I need to do with myself and my family in
the future.
I appreciate the
opportunity from Dr. Soldani to do this amazing deed for our current soldiers.
I really think Arnold’s quote really should be a more popular saying because it
may move people as much as it moved me. I really enjoyed doing this project
because it brought me so much joy just knowing I am helping someone get through
the day. It is not just what you do in your community it’s how it affects
everyone involved. Thank you so much for this opportunity!
